Just as I believe barbell curls build big and strong biceps, so I believe Jesus was born a couple thousand years ago to save our souls. Joy to the world, bombers! Christmas is straight ahead and the New Year is just around the bend. Go with the flow and have a wonderful time.

Don’t worry. Let not your good cheer be dimmed by harsh toil nor dampened by the absence of dancing iron. Be happy.

Rather than heavy rock ’n roll in the foreground, let your training be a comforting melody in the background. A joyful pump and a jolly good burn make Joe and Mary harmonious and nice. Whatever you do, clankers, don’t turn off the sounds. You’ll miss the beat and be out of tune by the first of the year.

And it is oh so hard to get back into rhythm again.

You’ll screech like a tin horn (frenzy), sound like a broken drum (anger) and allow deafening silence fill the space where discordant clinks and clunks were once enjoyed (despair).

My favorite holiday workout:

What’s Christmas without body-enhancing kneeling rope tucks (25 reps) augmented with lengthy floor-seated lat pulls (8 reps)?

Abs, torso, back, bis. One set is good, two sets are better, three sets are best.

Then, 30-degree incline dumbbell presses supersetted with close-grip under-hand pull-downs.

Shoulders, pecs, tris, bis and lats. Two sets x 10 reps will do, four will do more.

Followed by standing Zottman curls supersetted with pulley pushdowns.

Bis, forearms, triceps. Two sets x 10 and 15 work, four sets work wonders.

Focus, form and flexing-fun finished in forty-five fulfilling minutes, followed by a fantastic feeling of fortitude and fine flavorful food.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

PS: Save full squats for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day... throw in some deadlifts. I dare ya.
