Brother Iron, Sister Steel

A Bodybuilder's Book

Brother Iron, Sister Steel: A Bodybuilder's Book — Yes, and much more than a bodybuilder's book. This book is an inspiration, a source of fond memories, a guide to a healthier, more muscular, more "in touch with yourself" you. It is one of the best iron sport-related books I have ever read. For those seeking a guided tour to physique greatness, yes, there are specific dietary and exercise recommendations, there are exact listings of nutritional programs and training routines Dave has used. While anyone is free to copy these exactingly, the entire purpose of the book, from my perspective, would be lost.

This is one man's journey, one that was taken the hard way, one taken "for real," one that covered the typical things done during bodybuilding's so-called "Golden Age" through today's scientific and pseudo-scientific world of bodybuilding training and nutrition. Dave provides a lot of detail but it's detail designed to be applied, not copied. It's a map but one with many twists and turns in the road and the encouragement to seek a path best for you!

This is also a trip through the past, not for the sake of nostalgia, although there is plenty of that, but one that marks high points and low points, successes and failures, noting what specifically worked and what did not for a man who was unquestionable one of the greatest physiques of our day. That he has maintained so much hard, muscular mass at age fifty-eight, glowing with health, and with a "spiritual countenance" to match, is indicative that he has found what worked for him and what can, with some discipline and diligence, work for you.

This is Dave's message: The secret is there is no secret, just lots of sound information to be applied, that it will take discipline to apply it but the rewards can and will be great. The photos are steps beyond inspirational. My training partner received his book the same day I received mine and we both suspended our busy professional schedules as we recalled where we were, what we did, what kind of training we were immersed in at the time of publication of one of the many magazine covers depicted within the pages of this book. Each photo of the old or new Dave Draper showed the effects of one man's journey and inspired us to continue ours.

Brother Iron, Sister Steel is a must.
