Whey Protein Powder Percentages

I think we hit the target dead-on for our protein powder want list: The Bomber Blend ingredient percentage is 24% calcium caseinate, 59% whey, 1% colostrum and the remainder would be the miscellaneous nutrient ingredients plus flavoring. Note that this does not mean that the powder is 84% protein; it doesn't exactly convert that way. Looking at the vanilla flavored powder, it's 76% protein.

Whey protein is absorbed very quickly and casein is absorbed slower. It doesn't actually slow down the whey protein's absorption - that still happens as normal - but it adds an additional protein (casein) that is absorbed slower, giving you both a fast and a slow protein in one mixture. There's a bit of internet conversation about that, and in fact that was why we consulted a protein expert to get the straight story and have the formula reviewed. Some people believe casein is cheaper and that's why a manufacturer might choose to add it to the whey, making a less expensive product to manufacture.

This is incorrect. Calcium caseinate is twice as expensive as whey concentrate; it's *not* a cheap filler as some would have you believe, and we use more (as a percentage) than other popular brands that use the combination, which is an unusual mix in the first place.

We started on the road to the whey/casein blend with the goal to match the ratio that's found in mother's milk, which is about 50/50. We weren't able to do that because calcium caseinate gets too gummy, potassium caseinate is too bitter, and sodium caseinate has too much sodium. We went as high as we could comfortably get with the calcium caseinate and decided that's good enough.

Protein technology is pretty advanced. 98% of the lactose is removed before it arrives at the lab. We've added lactase, which should nullify any remaining lactose intolerance factors, along with digestive enzymes, bromelain and papain. Further, the majority of stomach problems that might be found with a whey product can be attributed to purity issues, which we don't have. There aren't any thickening agents, no guar gum or anything like that. It's affordable at $34 (or less depending on quantity), especially for what's in it.

And the taste is mild, good, but not overly sweet.
