Poor Squatting Form

You've been talking about squat form and safety in some detail here but I saw a guy doing some dumb things the other day so I thought I would pass on a "don't try this at the gym, kids !"

His form was so terrible his head ended up pretty close to the same height his knees every time he came up, not unlike one of those drinking bird toys. No way he could clear the uprights on the squat rack but this guy had a plan. With a fully loaded barbell on his shoulders he walked backwards 9 feet, clearing not only the uprights but the safety bars as well. Clear of all that safety, he went to work for real and what a joy that was to behold. His upper body went into what can only be called a free fall till his butt hit his heels and rebounded him...well, his butt any way, back up. His head, with the help of his poor lower back, found its way home in its own good time and locking both knees he was ready to fall into the next rep.

It was a long walk back to the rack so stopping to rest along the way was about the only thing he did that made much sense. Sadly I don't think he's going to be able to take his act on the road. Train Safe,

Doc

Doc, once again, you caught my attention from the dozing stealth mode with your excellent post. In my current condition, this makes me ill. I cringe. Done right, squats are a beautiful and wonderful excercise. Done wrong (even just a little bit), they can be a life-changing event. Dangerous business.

This guy doesn't know what he's risking and what he may well end up going through when his lumbar discs explode into his sciatic nerve, as they eventually will. I know no IOL'er would squat this way, but try to talk this guy out of his misguided efforts. Take care.
