TWO DAYS A WEEK WILL DO
The
hard-core bodybuilder, the beginner, the deconditioned, the athlete,
young, old, male or female. As I write I often wonder to whom
am I writing. Whoever you are, though the information I offer
varies, the message is always the same: Exercise faithfully, positively,
regularly, enthusiastically. Hit the gym, build muscle, eat right,
lose fat, heighten aerobic, kill stress.
The
spring lures us to the gym to prepare for the summertime and outdoor
activities. And, ironically, just as we are about to respond to
our eager input, the very goal itself displaces our purpose
our fitness preparation. The gym falls dispassionately to the wayside.
Our faces and bodies are less frequently seen in our favorite gym
in July and August and the establishment of a superlative habit
is broken.
Be careful. This is common, this is foolish. A dedicated hour of
weight training twice a week through the summer in the iron palace
and you remain on target - responsible, disciplined and motivated.
Do your aerobics and sports vigorously and playfully in the fields,
beaches and mountains. You're safe. You're free. No doubts, guilt,
or lost muscle density. No ever-growing training gap the
enemy no post-summer procrastination blues, no distressing
four week reconditioning challenge in the fall.
Two days a week to keep it? Any two? That's like a vacation. Bon
Voyage.
