Barry's California Dreamin'

The Blonde Bomber site.... Truly, these photos take me back to a time when life was simple... Work out hard with weights, eat plenty of fresh fruits/vegetables and take protein powder, and SOMEDAY I'LL look like Dave Draper... and I'll go to the Muscle Beach, and have fun w/pretty girls (hold them, lift them, other thoughts too :), and meet Zabo, Symoer Keonig, Larry Scott, Don Howorth, and hang-out with the Blond Bomber.

This fantasy lived in my mind from 12 til 16 or 17. It was corny, but it was pure! It was virtuous! It was good, innocent, clean fun!

Sometimes, I look over my dog-eared copies of MUSCLE BUILDER/POWER or others with photos of Draper, Howorth, etc. on the cover....... and it's like I can go back in time and be that pure, innocent, wholesome and earnest young man again. Although you never knew me, Dave Draper, you are a very special part of my youth.

It was all gonna happen some day; and, due to my passion for bodybuilding, the Bomber was - like it or not - my Hero. Much like kids today admire Michael Jordan, or another.

Now, at 48 (but most say I'm well preserved!) I'll still take a 1/2 hour on a early Saturday or Sunday morning, and I'll look thru those mags again, and remember how inspired I was, how hard I worked out, and I'm CALIFORNIA DREAMIN' and young again... if only for a half an hour :)
