Second
Hand Smoke
I
am usually in smoke free environments. I wonder if that's why it
especially bothers me to be around smoke. I hate it. I grew up with
parents smoking. I used to hide them and throw away cartons over
the years. Didn't seem to slow them down any. My dad died about
18 years ago and I am sure smoking played a part. Luckily my mom
quit about 10 yrs ago and is doing ok. I remember riding around
in the car as a kid in the dead of winter, desperately wanting to
open a window for some air and couldn't. I used to call the car
the 'Mobile Ashtray." Totally disgusting. The windows had a yellow
film on them. Anyway, enough reminiscing of those good times!
Any
of you who think second hand smoke does not effect you, listen to
this:
About
a year ago, I recommended that a client of mine increase his life
insurance. (Wife had twins!) When the blood work came back, he was
marked as a smoker as there was nicotine in his blood. When I asked
him about it - I never saw him smoke or smelled any evidence in
the years I've known him - he was outraged. Swore he never smoked
in his life. After some detective work, we realized he attended
an office party the night before the blood work. There were smokers
at the party. We redid the blood a week later and it was fine.
How
about a smoke free 2000?
